# Download a clip

Every clip starts as a preview. Here is how to make the finished version and save it to your device, ready to post anywhere.

Every clip on your project page starts as a preview. You can play it and change
how it looks, but to get a file you can post, you make the finished version
first. Here is how.

## Steps

### 1. Get the clip looking right

Play the clip and make any changes you want in the preview. Everything you see is
free to tweak, so get it the way you like before the next step. See
[The quick edit rail](/help/quick-edit-rail) for the controls.

### 2. Make the final clip

Tap **Get Clip**. Cliphi makes the finished version, which takes a moment. This
is the step that uses a credit, so make the clip once it looks right. See
[How credits work](/help/how-credits-work).

### 3. Download it

When the clip is ready, a **Download** button appears in place of Get Clip. Tap
it and the finished video saves to your device, ready to upload anywhere.

You can come back and download the same clip again any time, and that is free.
You only make it once.

## Want to post without leaving Cliphi?

Instead of downloading, tap **Share** on the clip to post it straight from Cliphi.
Download saves the file to your device. Share sends it out for you.

## Quick check before you Get Clip

- [ ] Watch the whole clip through in the preview.
- [ ] The subject stays in frame and the captions read clearly.
- [ ] Turn off anything you do not need, like the description.
- [ ] It looks the way you want, since making it again uses another credit.
