# Clip a YouTube livestream

Clip a YouTube livestream while it is still going, so a highlight can go out before the stream even ends. Here is how.

You do not have to wait for a livestream to finish. Paste the link while it is
live, and Cliphi records along and turns the best moments into short clips, so a
highlight can go up while the stream is still running.

## Before you start

You need the link to a YouTube livestream that is **live right now**. Open the
stream on YouTube and copy the link from your browser's address bar. This only
works while the stream is actually live. Once it ends, treat it like a normal
video and follow [Clip a YouTube video](/help/clip-a-youtube-video) instead.

## Steps

### 1. Paste the link

On the Cliphi home page, paste the livestream link into the box and select
**Get clips**.

### 2. Choose how long to record

A livestream does not have a start and end yet, so instead of picking a section,
you choose how long Cliphi should record along. Pick a length, then select
**Start Recording**. Want to keep going after that? Just start a new project to
record the next stretch.

### 3. Clips come back as it records

Cliphi records the stream and finds the best moments while it goes. Clips show up
one at a time, so you can start posting highlights before the stream is even over.

### 4. Tweak and post

Open a clip to change the look with the controls down the side, then tap
**Get Clip** to make the final version and download it, or **Share** to post it.

## Quick check before you post

- [ ] The speaker stays in frame the whole way.
- [ ] The captions read clearly and sit clear of the edges.
